Nail Trimming

Your ferrets nails should be checked regularly and kept trimmed short but be sure to avoid the red vein. If you accidentally clip the vein the ferret will let you know. Just keep them calm and if necessary apply an antiseptic cream. Long nails can split and get caught in carpet and bedding. Nails will wear down themselves if your ferret has a hard surface to scratch on.

To cut the nails use a pair of good quality nail clippers or strong human clippers (such as toenail clippers). You may have to distract your ferret with a dose of nutripet or by scruffing them. Checking nails every 2 weeks is a good idea to make sure there is no damage that may catch on fabric.

You may also need to file down the nail after trimming if it is sharp or has any obvious damage.
